100 days on: Bawumia promises enabling environment for Private sector

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said, government is coming out with a stimulus package of  GH¢220 million to support the private sector in the country

Speaking at Joy FM’s Tow Hall to mark the  Akufo-Addo-led administration’s 100 days, he disclosed that already the government has intervened in propping up a steel factory that was in distress.

He said the company was on the verge of collapse because of tariff issues.

“They closed down in October 2016 over disputed tariffs and we came and brought the parties together. Within few weeks we had resolved the issue and they reopened. We saved 400 jobs in that company as a result,” he said.

In March last year, an Accra-based Italian eatery, Bread and Wine, which employs over 60 Ghanaians was on the verge of shutting down after an audit report by the Ministry of Power realised that they consumed power to the tune of about GH60,000 for two months.

On company registration, Dr Bawumia assured that it will possible for  companies to be registered  in only one day.

According to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia a government that prides itself with working with the private sector cannot continue taking forever to register new companies.

It usually takes at least three weeks for new companies to be registered in Ghana by the Registrar General’s Department depending on how influential one is.

In the process, many middle men charge exorbitant amounts of monies for new companies to be registered.

This, according to the Vice President will soon end.
