20 under 40: Kosi Yankey

Kosi Yankey is the Founder and CEO  of Nuba Foods and Commodities, an organisation helping to bridge the gap between local farmers and industries in the West African sub-region by sourcing agricultural raw materials from smallholder farmers and supplying them to the industries.

The Ghana-based company, which presently engages over 100 women and farmers, also processes and markets a range of specialty foods.
As one of five finalists for BiD Network’s 2012 Women in Business Challenge, Kosi discloses Nuba reinvests 10% of its annual profits in meeting the needs of communities within which it operates, primarily in the areas of education because she believes that education is the tool to drive development and change in those communities, and also on improving health outcomes for women and children by providing better information about health risks and available treatments, which can then significantly reduce maternal mortality and child malnutrition.
Kosi’s ultimate goal; over the next half decade, Nuba should be the brand of choice for West African families no matter where they live.
