akua asare

Her organization, the Owiredu Foundation for Arts (OFA), as a stand-alone entity, was created only in 2016 but Akua Asare has been involved in a wide diversity of activities for many years in the region that correspond with the tenets of her organization (Read more on her here Africa Mental Health, Ebola Crisis Discussion.)

Her engagement with the city government of the District of Washington began in 2013 and she currently serves as Chair of the District of Columbia’s Commission on African Affairs and on the advisory committee for the West African Community Collaborative.

And for the next two years, OFA’s goals are to increase educational services (on mental health and well-being); to develop co-mentoring opportunities in the form of aligning similarly minded and interest complementary Africans in the Diaspora with those on the continent; and to become more visible as a support service entity in the DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia) region

  • Her driving philosophy; “Leave the world (whatever space you find yourself in) better than when you found it.”
  • She is binge attending festivals and concerts
  • She, with two others, set up the #bringbackourgirls Ghana social media campaign
