Airtel Ghana walks the talk on women empowerment with Mrs Rawlings

Airtel Ghana, CIMG Marketing Oriented Company of the Year has earmarked March as International Women’s Month under the theme, “Make it Happen!”

International Women’s Day was first celebrated more than 100 years ago and is a day to commemorate the achievements of women and girls throughout the world.

At the experience-sharing event, held at the Airtel Head office, the former first lady of Ghana, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman – Rawlings shared her personal experiences with more than 200 female and male staff members.

The forum encouraged the young women to make the most of the opportunities made available by Airtel and inspired them to always keep reaching for their goals and life aspirations.

Speaking to the staff of Airtel, Mrs. Rawlings said, “The beauty of womanhood is our unique approaches and outlooks on matters which help to break the status quo and introduce new dynamic ideas, methods and solutions. Let us embrace our womanhood and let us bring this to the fore in the corporate sector as well.”

She added that “the progress achieved by women in the country over the past 20 years was not by accident. It took commitment, it took accountability, it took unity, and it took a lot of hard work. The journey is not over yet, as there is still room for improvement…let’s keep working until we can finally say that the unfinished business of having gender balance is done.”

In her opening remarks the Managing Director of Airtel Ghana Lucy Quist said “We are breaking barriers and succeeding in careers that our mothers and grandmothers could never have imagined and as more opportunities have become available to women, that hasn’t just enriched our own lives – as we all know it has enriched the life of this nation.”

The purpose of the Airtel Talk Series is dedicated to empowering women’s intellectual, creative, economic activity and charitable spirit to effect meaningful social change in their lives and society. The Airtel Talk Series features influential women in Ghana that seek to inspire other women to reach their potential.
