Apple reveals the exact launch time for Apple Music and Beats 1

Apple will launch its new music streaming service, Apple Music, on Tuesday, the same day the company will launch its Beats 1 radio station and iOS 8.4.

“Seeing Apple Music on stage at WWDC this month … it was hard not to feel like the last 20+ years was leading to this day,” Senior Apple Music director Ian Rogers and former Beats CEO wrote in a blog post. “Tuesday morning we’ll be unveiling the next chapter. Please make a note to upgrade to iOS 8.4 Tuesday, June 30th and listen to our first day of broadcasting.” He pointed to a Facebook event celebrating the launch, too.

On Twitter, Rogers wrote that iOS 8.4 would also be available on 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday, while Beats 1 would begin broadcasting an hour later, at 12 p.m. ET.

The launch of Apple Music is one of the most significant events of the year for Apple, which officially announced the service in June during its Worldwide Developers Conference. Apple Music is based in part on Beats Music, a music subscription service Apple bought along with its purchase of Beats Electronics for $3billion last year.

Apple Music offers music recommendations, a curated section highlighting new albums, songs and videos, a social network with exclusive artist content called Connect, and a 24/7 radio station. At $10 per month, it costs about the same as Spotify, Rdio and other established music subscription services.
