Busy Internet has become the latest Internet Service Provider (ISP) to introduce 4G data services onto the Ghanaian market.
The company has also rebranded as “Busy”, to reflect its new identity as a data services provider, rather than only an Internet service provider.
At the launch in Accra yesterday, the Minister of Communication, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, said the rebranding of the company and its introduction of 4G data service would contribute towards the growth and enhancement of Ghana’s ICT industry as well as the economy in general.
“For over a decade, Busy symbolised the provision of Internet services in Ghana and I am particularly encouraged that the company has taken its services to the next level to meet the increasing demands of data services,” he said.
Economy growing Dr. Boamah said the increasing number of data services providers, especially the high growth in the fourth generation long term evolution (4GLTE) segment in Ghana, was a clear indication of a developing economy, and added that Ghana was taking a major step in advancing its economy prospects, especially in the business sectors.
“We are living at a time where everything we do daily involves the use of internet data services. This means the country’s capacity to deliver the best of services ought to be prime,” he said.
He was happy that both the government and the private sector were making significant investments in ICT infrastructure to improve delivery of services.
Busy on the move
The Managing Director of Busy, Mr. Praveen Sadalage, said he was hopeful that the introduction of the 4GLTE data services would contribute to deepening the already competitive ICT industry.
For a start, the company has introduced wireless routers and WiFi at different data bundles and prices to cater for the needs of individuals, small and medium-scale businesses.
Currently, the Busy’s 4G data services cover up to Kasoa and Prampram in the Greater Accra Region and Ayi Mensa, near Aburi.
According to Mr. Sadalage, efforts were being put in place to extend the 4G services to other parts of the country.
Busy’s 4G data bundles range from 100MB to 50GB with the ability to roll over unused data from one bundle to the next.
The Director of the National Communication Authority (NCA), Mr Paul Kofi Datsa, commended Busy for the bold step taken to launch the 4G service and urged them to make their customers the highest priority in service delivery.
