The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), has assured the public that measures have been put in place to mitigate the impact on power supply during the shutdown of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah.
According to GRIDCo, the Volta River Authority (VRA) has purchased enough light crude oil to power some of the thermal plants within the Aboadze power enclave in the Western Region.
This assurance follows the shutdown of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah yesterday, for mandatory inspection and maintenance works for two weeks.
GRIDCo earlier in a statement said, the transmission system may experience some challenges which may affect power supply stability due to the conversion of all dual fuel thermal plants to run on light crude oil.
But in an interview, Chief Executive Officer of the GRIDCo, Engineer William Amuna said their engineers are working hard to complete the conversion in the next two to three days.
“What we are doing is we are trying to ensure that all plants run on light crude oil. Already some of them are running on the light crude oil and the engineers are working round the clock to ensure that the rest also run on the light crude oil. We are just hoping that should be done in the next couple of days like within the next two to three days. When you are running on gas, you definitely have some reserves of light crude oil though you may not have a lot to last for too many days but clearly you always have some reserves.” He explained.
Engineer Amuna was quick to add that funding is not a problem when it comes to purchasing the crude oil as the VRA has placed orders for enough Light crude oil for the period that the FPSO will not be working.
Meanwhile GRIDCo has also announced that following the vandalism of some pipelines of the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) in Nigeria, gas flow from the WAPCo pipeline has reduced to only 6 million standard cubic feet per day from the contracted volume of 120 million standard cubic feet per day.
