Ghana-Nigeria Trade Confab Starts

The Ghana-Nigeria Trade and Investment Conference starts today, Thursday, 10 May 2018 in Accra.

The two-day forum is on the theme: “Harnessing the Business Opportunities in Ghana and Nigeria to Accelerate Inclusive Economic Growth and Development.”

The investment conference was expected to have started in March, but was postponed to Thursday.

The organisers are hoping to use the forum to help boost trade and economic ties between the two countries.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Yoofi Grant, explained the rationale behind the programme to Class Business, saying: “Between Ghana and Nigeria, there is a strong and big market. First of all, these are countries whose average GDP growth will exceed five per cent? These are countries were more than 50 per cent of the population is below the ages of 35, and, so, these are emerging economies that are looking good.

“Ghana and Nigeria are sister countries with common cultures. We can lead the way in economic integration in West Africa. We will look at also partnering Côte d’Ivoire because Ghana has partnered Côte d’Ivoire in the cocoa industry. The president signed a treaty with Côte d’Ivoire, and, so, regional plays are very important for us.”
