The Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC) has disclosed that more international hotel managers have expressed interest to set up 5-Star hospitality facilities in Ghana.
This, the GIPC said is in response to government’s new move aimed at growing the tourism industry to make it the number one job creation avenue for Ghanaians.
One such hospitality operator ready to operate in Ghana is Shangri La Hotels.
Shangri-La Hotels is a multinational five-star luxury properties with premier city locations across Asia Pacific, North America, the Middle East, and Europe.
Speaking to Citi Business News at the sidelines of the Ghana Tourism Investment Forum, the Chief Executive Officer of the GIPC, Mr. Yofi Grant was of the view that the move will engender competition in the hospitality industry.
“We are going to see Shangri La, another five-star global chain which will start building in Ghana very soon. This is the real Shangri La, global player of five star luxury hotels. They have already acquired the land and will start construction soon,” he stated.
Mr. Grant added that more international investors have expressed interest in establishing their operations in Ghana.
He stated that the GIPC also makes it a point to invite such global investors to assess specific areas that require Foreign Direct Investment.
“There are already some big players investors in the market. There is one here from Morocco who is doing a significant project in Ivory Coast, building two hotels and building 6,000 homes,” he said, adding that “We managed to bring him here to come and listen to what we have and he told me this morning that the few hours he spent in Ghana he already has a good feel about this place much better than the other places he’s been so he is very keen and interested here”.
Mr. Grant assured that the GIPC will continue to attract the right investors into areas of the economy that require funding and partnerships.
He maintained that government is keen on growing the hospitality industry to help create jobs for Ghanaians.
