Gov’t vows to protect against job cuts by oil companies due to crude price declines

Government has indicated that it will work to ensure that layoffs by oil firms in Ghana due to declining crude prices do not affect Ghanaian workers unduly.

Petroleum Minister Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah told Joy Business even though government admits these job cuts are necessary, circumspection should be a key factor.

“What we have done though is that we’ve put our feet on the ground, we’ve fought with the oil companies, we’ve made it clear that in this young industry when we are building capacity this is not where you cut and cut.

We need to make sure that critical areas we protect,” he said.

He also gave assured that oil exploration activities will not be affected despite declining crude prices.

He said all the oil firms have secured the required funding for their operations.
