GTBank commended as an example of good corporate governance

 

Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited has been commended for setting a high standard and an example for the practice of good corporate governance in the financial services industry in Ghana.

This affirmation was made by the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Adekunbi Sonaike-Ayodeji when a delegation of the Bank, led by the Managing Director, Mr. Lekan Sanusi paid a courtesy call on her to welcome her to Ghana.

Ambassador Sonaike-Ayodeji referred to a number of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility activities and other business practices to buttress this assertion and declared that “I am aware of some of what you do and that you are an example of good corporate practice in Ghana”.

She stated that “GTBank Ghana, by virtue of its parentage, is one of the flag bearers of Nigeria in Ghana” and went on to advice the Bank to continue with its good works and to keep leaving its doors always open to all and sundry.She declared, “GTBank is the bank to reckon with because you are focused”.

In relation to the Bank’s 10th anniversary in Ghana this year, Madam Adekunbi Sonaike-Ayodeji advised the Bank to showcase its achievements and contributions over the past ten years of doing business in the country and also to celebrate its successes.

She summed it up that, “Whoever has done well should celebrate”.Speaking on her activities as the Acting High Commissioner of Nigeria, she promised to enhance what would always promote her country’s corporate interests in Ghana and further deepen diplomacy between the two countries. Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited, Mr. Lekan Sanusi further pledged his support to the mission and informed the acting High Commissioner of the enormous support the Bank continues to receive from staff and other stakeholders in Ghana.

Having joined the Nigerian Foreign Service in 1983, H.E. Ambassador Adekunbi Sonaike-Ayodeji is the 14th High Commissioner to represent Nigeria in Ghana since independence.She is a Master’s degree holder of the University of Lagos, having read International Law and Diplomacy in 1990.

Madam Sonaike-Ayodeji has served in the Embassies of Nigeria, Lome, Togo and as the permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations, New York. She was also the Chairperson of the African Group, and Vice Chairperson of the Bureau of the 50th and 51st session of the Commission on the Status of Women between 2006 and 2007.

Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited was registered in October 2004 as a limited liability company and licensed by the Bank of Ghana in February 2006 to provide universal banking services to the general public.

It opened its door to customers on 13th March, 2006.
