Inflation rate for the month of June 2014 has gone up by 0.2 percent from last month’s 14.8 percent; hitting 15 percent.
The rate of inflation for June is the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
The year-on-year non-food inflation rate for June 2014 was 20.3 percent compared to the 20 percent recorded for May 2014.
The year-on-year food inflation rate for June 2014 was 7.9 percent, a fall of 0.1 percentage point from the 8.0 percent recorded for May.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, the Government Statistician, Philomena Nyarko also revealed that the main price drivers for the non-food inflation rate were housing, water, electricity, gas and transport.
She further added that the price drivers for the food inflation rate were mineral water, soft drinks, fruit juices, coffee, tea and cocoa, etc.
Madam Nyarko explained that the year-on-year inflation rate for imported items (19.1%) is about one and half times higher than the inflation rate for locally produced items (13.5%).
The regional differentials saw the Upper East region with the highest regional year-on-year inflation rate of 18.3 percent and the Volta region record the lowest of 13.1 percent.
