Ishmael Yamson Steps Down As Board Chairman Of Stanchart

The Board Chairman of Standard Chartered Bank, Mr. Ishmael Yamson has announced his resignation from the position effective June 30, 2018.
His resignation comes after serving in that capacity for thirteen years; from 2005 to 2018.

Mr. Yamson announced his resignation at the bank’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, June 7, 2018.

Speaking to Citi Business News on his tenure, Mr. Yamson said, “I took the bank from one which was just an ordinary bank to one that has an ecosystem of excellence, outstanding performance, effectiveness, efficiency and of people who are passionate about building a great bank.”

Mr. Ishmael Yamson is a seasoned and well known corporate executive in Ghana.

He joined Unilever Ghana in 1966 from the University of Ghana, Legon and worked for the company for 38 years in various capacities, the last 18 years of which he was Chief Executive Officer and Chairman.

During that period he restructured and transformed the Company and set it on a path of sustained growth for more than fifteen years.

Mr. Yamson’s corporate life transcended Unilever. He was deeply involved in the development of Ghana’s private sector having played key roles in key associations including the Ghana Chamber of Commerce (President), Ghana Employers Association (President), among others.

He was also a founding Director of the Ghana Stock Exchange and a founding member of the team that developed the first Ghana Investment Promotion Centre Act, 1994 (Act 478).

Other external appointments of Mr. Yamson include Ghacem Ghana Limited (Director), Benso Oil Palm Plantation Limited (Board Chairman), Scancom Limited (MTN – Board Chairman), Ishmael Yamson & Associates (Board Chairman) as well as Kosmos Energy Ghana (Advisory Council Member).
