MTN leads market with 47.24% share- NCA

MTN Ghana continues to lead the Telecommunications mobile voice market with a share of 47.24 per cent as at April, 2016 according to National Communications Authority (NCA)  latest  market share statistics.

According to the report, MTN’s mobile voice subscribers as at April stood at 17,192,543. This represents a percentage increase of 1.11 per cent from 17,004,445 in March, 2016

Vodafone Ghana and Tigo respectively maintained their position as second and third dominant telcos in the country

Vodafone’s mobile voice subscribers increased from 7,900,534 to 7,976, 348 at the end of April 2016, representing a percentage increase of 0.96 percent. Vodafone’s market share for April 2016 stood at 21.92 per cent

Tigo’s voice subscribers increased from 5,062,304 as at the end of March 2016 to 5, 213,398 as at the end of April 2016. This represents an increase of 2.98 percent. Their market share for the month under review was 14.32 per cent

Market losers

Airtel, Glo and Expresso lost grounds in terms of mobile voice subscribers

Airtel’s voice subscribers decreased from 5,012,239 as at the end of March 2016 to 4,942,197 as at the end of April 2016, representing a percentage decrease of 1.40 per cent. Their total market share for the month under review was 13.58 per cent

Glo’s voice subscriber figure decreased from 1,048,635 as at the end of March 2016 to 962,338 at the end of April 2016. This reflects a percentage decrease of 8.23 per cent for the month, bringing its market share for the month under review to 2.64 per cent.

Expresso’s  also a saw decrease from 110,54 to 108,292 as at the end of April 2016. This represents a percentage decrease of 2.04%. Their total market share for the month under review was 0.30%.
