MTN leads voice subscription again in March 2016

 

MTN emerged as the fastest growing Telco in voice for March 2016.

It gained the highest number of subscribers of about 217,000 in March 2016.

This is according to the market share report from the National Communications Authority (NCA) for the month of March 2016.

MTN’s voice subscriber base now stands at a little above 17 million during the period under review representing a 1.29% growth.

MTN now holds around 47.05% of the market share.

This represents the third time that MTN has led the industry’s voice subscription.

It led with 46.89% and 46.58%  in January and February respectively.

Second largest Telco, Vodafone followed MTN in the growth race, gaining some 41,048 subscribers.

This increased its subscriber base by 0.58%.

With a little above 7.9million subscribers, Vodafone now commands a market share of 21.86%.

Tigo this time around followed Vodafone gaining 42,067 subscribers moving its subscriber’s base by 0.72%. Its market share for March 2016 stands at 14.01%.

Airtel which commands a little above 5 million subscribers in the market, also gained some 101,632 new subscribers in March 2016 representing an increase of 2.07% in their base.

Following Tigo in the voice market share race, Airtel’s market share now stands at 13.87%.

Glo on the other hand lost 54,666 subscribers in March 2016 which pushed its subscriber base down by 4.95%.

With a little above 1 million subscribers, Glo now commands a market share of 2.90%.

Expresso this time trailed at the bottom losing some 4,509 subscribers in March.

This pushed its subscriber base by 3.92%.

With 110,549 subscribers, Expresso now holds 0.31% of the total market share.

Generally, the number of voice subscribers grew by about 336,570 measuring a little below 0.94%.
