We need Trade than foreign Aid – Dr. Bawumia

The Vice President of the republic of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, at the fifth annual World Government Summit in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, has urged investors and development partners to consider trading with Ghana.

According to, Dr. Bawumia, Ghana is well positioned to trade rather than to receive aid from its development partners.

“The Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government wants a relationship with the world driven more by Trade than Aid,” he said.

Speaking on the topic Leapfrogging Development: The African Story on Sunday afternoon, Dr. Bawumia stated that, the potential for leveraging technology for growth in Africa was huge, indicating that African countries including Ghana needs to tap it urgently.

According to him “Africa has to understand that the process of leapfrogging must be homegrown and implemented in full, hoping that, in the next five years, Africa will become the fastest growing continent in the world.”

The summit which is being held from Sunday February 12 to Tuesday February 14, 2017 is on the theme “Shaping Future Governments”, and is expected to explore the future of governments in the coming decades.

The World Government Summit which is in its fifth year, is a global platform dedicated to the enhancement of government around the world and its convenes over 3,000 government leaders and policy makers, private sector executives and renowned experts from worldwide.

During the panel discussion after the opening session of the summit on Sunday, the co – panelist of Ghana’s Vice President Dr. Bawumia was the President of Guinea, Mr. Alpha Conde.
