New electricity billing system starts in July- Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians, the implementation of corrected new electricity billing system will begin on July 1, 2016.

According to the president, the defects of the billing system has been corrected and starting from July 1, the public would begin to witness relief in their electricity billings.

The President made this assurance when he inspected work on the Madina District Hospital under construction, as part of his “Accounting to the people tour” in the Greater Region.

He explained that “because the electricity billing is done in monthly cycles, they have to start the billing cycle on the first day of the month.”

“I’m sure that a lot of us will see some relief in the electricity bills” he added.

The President’s assurances came  as outraged residents of Nungua, Teshie and Labadi, took to the the streets of Accra to show their displeasure with the new billing system and called on the government to reduce what they call ‘killer electricity billings’.
