Business World has gathered that the much awaited draft amendments to Act 663 of the Public Procurement Act will be passed into law by parliament by December.
The need for the amendment according to the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) was to remove operational inefficiencies which hindered the smooth implementation of the Act, since its inception in 2004.
Delivering a speech during the 7th public forum of the PPA on the theme “Taking new strides to transform Ghana’s public procurement; your role, my role Chief Executive Officer of the PPA Samuel Sallas – Mensah expressed the hope that the amendment, which was made to conform to international best practices, would receive affirmation and encourage institutions such as the World Bank and other development partners to adopt Ghana’s procurement system.
“On the amendment of the procurement act am pleased to announce that the long awaited public procurement amendment bill is currently before parliament as part of the financial bills to be considered by parliament passed soon. This comes after the bill was gazzetted and signed.”
