Power crisis: Growing demand for electricity to blame- Prez Mahama

Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama has blamed the current power crisis on the growing demand for electricity in the country.

He was addressing the Ghanaian community in The Gambia, where he is attending the former’s Independence anniversary celebration in the capacity of ECOWAS Chairman.

According to the President, since a lot of gadgets were powered by electricity, successive governments should have factored the situation into their operations however, he would not blame any administration as his was working around the clock to improve generation capacity.

“Every young man or woman has a mobile phone, microwaves, air conditioners and other electrical gadgets. All these run on electricity. That is why government is working to improve the generation capacity”

Thousands of Ghanaians took to the streets on February 18th, 2015 to register their displeasure over the country’s erratic power supply, a protest the Power Minister described as a “keep fit walk”.

President Mahama however stated the protest was an encouragement to him to do everything within his power to end the worsening crisis.
