Stanbic Bank offers financial solutions to Ghanaians

 

Passionate about helping Ghanaians to meet their financial needs and manage their finances more adequately, Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited has launched an application (App) dubbed ‘Stanbic Money App Challenge.’

The national mobile app development competition is aimed at engaging young and talented mobile app developers and teams all over Ghana, with the intention of creating innovative financial education tools that can help users better understand how to manage their money and achieve their financial goals.

Speaking on the objective of the challenge at the Stanbic Heights in Accra, Head of Marketing and Communications at the bank, Mr Mawuko Afadzinu said what the bank sought to do was to throw a challenge to the youth, as well as brilliant people in Ghana.

“Ultimately, our objective is to be able to generate a lot of applications that we will buy from the developers and put them out in the public for people to use all in the bid to encourage people to do the right thing so far as their finances are concerned.

“To all the young men and women in Ghana who are talented, we are asking them to enter this challenge because it presents several opportunities and it could be the path to greatness for so many people,” he said.

The focus of the initiative, according to him, was to bring financial knowledge to the fore, right to the home of every Ghanaian in means and ways they can access, in forms they will find interesting, in very interacting and engaging manners.

Managing Director of Stanbic Bank, Mr Alhassan Andani said, “This app is really to enable banks become technology banks.”

Mr Andani said the challenge was part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and was to reaffirm its commitment to deepening financial inclusion in Ghana.

Submissions for the competition were opened on March 28, 2016 for only apps related to the challenge verticals.

The bank disclosed that each submission will be evaluated and winners would be determined by conformity with financial literacy or financial education, creativity and originality of solution, viability of the concept to be built and published as a usable mobile app, and thoroughness of the submitted materials in compliance with contest rules, guidelines and requirements.

Launching the challenge, Africa’s finest business speaker, Vusi Thembekwayo congratulated the bank, saying the “the contest is exciting”.

The duration of the challenge is four months, after which the judges will pick 10 finalists to complete for the ultimate.

The prizes for the winners include 1st Prize – GH¢10,000, 2nd Prize – GH¢5,000, 3rd Prize – GH¢3,000 and 4th – 10th Prize – GH¢1,000. In addition to the cash prizes, all 10 finalists will receive goodies from Stanbic Bank.
