Transport Ministry to name new National Airline partner in March

The Ministry of Transport have hinted that it will name a new partner for Ghana’s new national airline by the end of March.

According to the Ministry, the transaction advisor, Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) is currently awaiting an approval from the Public Procurement Committee of government on the tender documents to pave way for the open tender for competitive bidding.

This comes after PWC settled on Qatar Airways as the best option for Ghana in its quest to find a partner for the new national carrier in its final feasibility report to the transport ministry which also named some 7 other airlines including Delta and South African airlines as good options for Ghana.

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Transport, Twumasi Ankrah – Selby maintained government was still committed to finding a requisite partner for the national airline.

“The Public Private Partnership, (PPP) arrangement Ghana has a policy. Ghana now has a policy that for any private sector interest, you go along the PPP framework and I’m saying that where we are now, before we can go out for the request of proposals, to invite these from the private investors, this committee has to approve those documents.

As we speak now the documents have been sent to the Ministry of Finance, the Public Investment Division section. This job was at the secretariat for the PPP committee that is the public procurement policy to look at it,”

“We are waiting for them to look at the document. When they approve it, they will then send it back to us and then the consultant can go out with the request of the proposal which is part of the PPP process,” Twumasi Ankrah Selby said.

He added, “We are ready to move ahead quickly and as soon as we get the approval, we will do so, with the request of proposal, we are hoping that the latest time that they meet they will be able to clear this document for us to go ahead.”
