UG students emerge winners at design challenge

Four second year students of the University of Ghana emerged winners of the 2nd Innovate Ghana Design Challenge held last Friday.

Participants were required to design cheap isolation units for persons suffering from Ebola.

Led by George Emmanuel Tetteh, the winning team used the concept of a stretcher that could be extended into a tent.

“We used a special type of nylon called gotex which allows air in but keeps water out. We also used aluminum rods for the structure. In case you want to move the entire contraption, you fold the structure into the stretcher and move it,” he said.

Dalex and Blue Skies have provided funding for a prototype to be built.
